PAD System has a ticket to Hollywood thanks to Andy Wilkes, our agent in L.A. who is also a well-known CAD designer
The following is an excerpt from an article in the Tech Notes section of the California Apparel News magazine, July 8-14, 2005 issue.
Andy Wilkes, PAD System's agent and the owner of Siren in Los Angeles, is one of several Los Angeles apparel designers who supply the entertainment industry with garments that are produced locally and quickly. He has 25 years of experience in the industry and he and his five-members staff can pump out the most intricate costume in a few hours by using PAD System Pattern Design and Haute Couture 3D software.
Recently, Wilkes provided the sexy corset Angelina Jolie wore during the dominatrix scene in 20th Century Fox's current release "Mr. and Mrs. Smith".
For his creations, Andy Wilkes actively uses Haute Couture 3D of PAD, as well as Maya and Syflex, and he recognizes that his work depends on the quality of the software tools which has disposal. Designing such garments on a computer allows Wilkes to make alterations with the click of a mouse. "3D is a new thing," he said. "It's a part of a new paradigm where you can view all the iterations before you make a sample. You can use it for display and merchandize by making a 3D model of your fit model. You can share it between designers and sales staff who might be on road. It's a new way of communicating."
The high quality of PAD System's software are also recognizes by the Hollywood entertainment industry with the use of PAD's pattern design program to design clothing for the characters of Disney/Pixar's movie "The Incredibles", the Oscar's winning animation film. "The Incredibles" broke ground because it was the first movies to use CAD and animation technology to make clothing more lifelike.
"The technology is a set of tools to help improve accuracy" said Andy Wilkes.

PAD System Technologies latest Innovations Unveiled at NATS 2005
Montreal, Canada, May 20, 2005 - PAD System Technologies Inc., world-renowned CAD/CAM developer for the garment industry, successfully displayed its recent innovations at NATS 2005 (Montreal, Palais des Congrès, May 15-17, 2005).
At the popular National Apparel Technologies Trade Show (NATS) that takes place in Montreal every three years, PAD gave visitors a sneak peek at its latest module, a new web-based production management (PDM) system: Manager 4.5. This user-friendly software allows manufacturers to remotely and securely access, create, modify and manage product development information related to each style. This information includes design details, trimmings, sewing instructions, as well as the data directly imported from PADs Pattern and Marker applications, suppliers and clients database and much more. Therefore, manufacturers and subcontractors around the world can work more closely than ever and access in real time their common database.
PAD System also presented its first automated high-speed digitizing system consisting of a large-format scanner connected to the NScan software that allows the user to digitize pattern pieces in seconds and import them into PADs Pattern application. This combined solution is remarkable by its speed (up to 5 times faster than with digitizing table), simplicity (no special preparation is needed), accuracy and ease-of-use. Human digitizing errors are virtually eliminated, the system will be able to handle even the most complicated patterns and will also automatically recognize boundary lines, internal lines, notches, cutouts and more...
Visitors, who had a chance to see the incredible progress of the Haute Couture 3D module, have been unquestionably impressed by its latest version. Now manufacturers can visualize their garment before ordering their fabrics by simulating them directly in HC3D, with more speed, simplicity and realism than ever!

In addition, the great features and advantages of the 4Dbox textile design software were also demonstrated. This avant-garde software is the most effective solution for designers with respect to creating fabrics, mapping them onto 2D images, and mixing and matching those images for a final visual view of their sample product. Powerful, easy to learn, and cost-effective, it helps you increase productivity by streamlining your sample-making process and avoiding costly mistakes. Its innovative, fun and user-friendly features also enhance the creative process, contributing to the creation of numerous rich and original designs.
The future customer-oriented developments were also on display for the first time, as the only apparel CAD/CAM system running on Mac OSX environment.
NATS was a perfect opportunity for those who wished to discover PAD products for the first time or simply to stay up-to-date with their latest technological advances.
